Quality Manager

Lotus Bakeries in Mebane, North Carolina, is seeking a quality manager who is an expert in leading and overseeing audits. The quality manager ensures the safety and quality of food products that are delivered to market from our factory. A major responsibility is to instill and maintain a culture of continuous improvement towards safety, quality, and efficiency. As a member of the plant leadership team, the quality manager contributes to the overall plant performance. Occasional domestic and international travel is required.

Job description

  • Responsible for QA/QC
  • Serve as the expert for all internal and external audits including but not limited to: FDA, Kosher, BRC, and GFCO, and responsible to coordinate the implementation of any corrective actions as a result of the audits
  • Responsible for achieving the production KPIs (quality, hygiene)
  • Implement GMP instructions and enforce compliance
  • Proactively propose and implement improvement initiatives (continuous improvement)
  • Cultivate a culture where quality and product safety are front-of-mind (safety first, quality always)
  • Drive plant toward exceptional hygiene and quality status
  • Ensure plant achieves the targeted quality of all end-products
  • Responsible for product testing in production (R&D)
  • Ensure compliance with FSMA/FDA regulations and IFS standards
  • Responsible for lab analysis
  • Review and respond to customer complaints, with a goal of determining root-cause and then enacting corrective actions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to keep the plant audit-ready at all times
  • Provide training tools and documentation
  • Manage pest control program

Profile

Education:

  • Master’s degree in food science, food technology, chemistry, or biology
  • Bachelor’s degree in same domains with minimum 8 years of applicable experience

Specific knowledge:

  • FSMA/FDA requirements
  • GFSI-certification requirements
  • Must be able to perform duties following all regulatory GMP/FSMA food hygiene practices
  • Basics of mechanical/electrical engineering and utilities

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience (food industry or related)
  • Experience with IFS is a plus

Language: 

  • English proficiency (verbal and written)
  • Conversational Spanish is a plus
